ETH launches new study programme “Master of Science in Quantum Engineering”
Institute for Quantum Electronics (IQE)
The Departments of Physics and of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at ETH Zurich launch their new study programme “Master of Science in Quantum Engineering” in Autumn 2019. With this programme, the departments respond to the growing demand of quantum engineers with both a solid training in electrical engineering and quantum science.
National Future Day at the Department of Physics
The National Future Day of 8 November 2019 was a big event at ETH Zurich. Boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 13 participates in 17 different programmes this year. The successful vocational-training programme "Cool technology – hot apprenticeships in the Department of Physics" was held for the fifth time this year, with 20 children taking part.
Very cool wheels for a very large telescope
- Astronomy
- Astrophysics (IPA)
The Laboratory for Astronomical Instrumentation at ETH Zurich has shipped its first cryogenic wheels that were developed for the new infrared instrument ERIS on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). These mechanisms will hold various filters and masks that provide unique capabilities for direct imaging and characterization of exoplanets.
Coping with errors in the quantum age
Institute for Quantum Electronics (IQE)
Nowadays, quantum systems can be manipulated with extremely high, but not perfect precision. ETH physicists have now demonstrated how errors that occur during such operations can be monitored and corrected on the fly.
