Renato Renner receives ALEA Award
Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP)
Around 1,200 ETH members responded to the Executive Board’s invitation to this year’s Christmas reception. After looking back at some of the year’s highlights and getting a preview of the ETH plus initiative, the newly launched ALEA Award was presented, with physics professor Renato Renner becoming its first receipient.
About 1,200 guests — a new record — came together with the Executive Board in the ETH main building to look back on an eventful 2017 and to toast the many common achievements.
During the second part of the evening, Isabella Schalko of the Academic Association of Scientific Staff at the ETH Zurich (AVETH) presented the first ALEA Award, which was launched this year by AVETH with support from the Equal! Office of Equal Opportunities and HR. The award, which succeeds the previous Golden Tricycle award, honours leaders who facilitate modern and innovative working conditions, and who promote and actively support combining a career with having a family and taking on commitments outside of work.
Professor Renato Renner, Head of the Quantum Information Theory group in the Department of Physics, prevailed against 36 other nominees and received the award on stage.
