Lavinia Heisenberg, Junior Fellow at the ETH Institute for Theoretical Studies, is awarded the Gustav Hertz Prize 2018 of the German Physical Society, for her groundbreaking contributions to the development of gravitational theories.

On this year's ETH Day, Kip Thorne — one of the 2017 Physics Nobel laureates — has been awared a honorary doctorate of ETH Zurich, at the request of the Department of Physics.

Every year, the Association of Students at ETH Zurich (VSETH) awards the "Golden Owl" to particularly committed teachers. Among the recipients this year is also physics professor Renato Renner.

For the Swiss national 'Future Day', the Department of Physics had this year two programmes on offer, to grant children a glance into their possible professional futures — be it in science or in a technical profession.
