Quantum science: International exchange
Together with a group of physicists, ETH president Lino Guzzella traveled from 20 to 23 November 2016 to Israel, to visit the Quantum Information Science Center of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, near Tel Aviv. The visit was a further step towards strengthening international exchange in the field of quantum science.
ETH visit to Israel
Already in 2007, a first agreement on mutual exchange was signed with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), one of Israel's oldest and most distinguished universities. When the ETH president visited Israel in May 2014, sever focus areas were defined in which research cooperation should be promoted. One of these areas is quantum science. In the following November, ETH held a workshop in Zurich, as part of the Quantum Engineering Initiative.
The mission of current trip to Israel, with a group of physics professors and their doctoral students and postdocs, was to further intensify this collaboration. Many of the ETH participants are already collaboration with the framework of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "Quantum Science and Technology" (QSIT).
The exchange programme was organized jointly by ETH Global, the Department of Physics at ETH Zurich, HUJI and the Weizmann Institute for Science. The guests from Switzerland were received warmly in Israel. During an fruitful visit, the researchers had exchange on more than ten specific areas of quantum engenieering, visited laboratories and maintained (or established) personal contacts.
