Welcome to D-PHYS!
A traditional social event gathered the new apprentices of the D-PHYS vocational training workshops.
This year, about 70 new apprentices started their vocational training at ETH Zurich by attending a week-long camp in Beinwil at the beginning of August. The first connections were formed across the boundaries of individual professional paths thanks to various activities and projects. The apprentices then joined the various workshops and training centres within ETH.
The Department of Physics welcomes 19 new apprentices this year: eight electronics technicians, five physics laboratory technicians, five polymechanics and one design engineer. In their first week at ETH, they were introduced to administrative and role-specific processes and activities. A trail across the Hönggerberg campus allowed them to get to know their future working environment in an alternative way.
Following the first two weeks of their training programmes, new apprentices had the chance to meet informally with their vocational trainers as well as with more senior apprentices for the traditional 'welcome barbecue'. In the best summer weather, vocational trainer Christian Richter gave a welcome speech, introduced new vocational trainer Marcel Huwyler and invited everyone to enjoy the company and the food.
We wish all new apprentices at D-PHYS a successful start!
