D-PHYS Day 2024

The topics of this year's D-PHYS Day ranged from the latest news from departmental services and facilities to exoplanet and quantum information research that's carried out in the department.

After a traditional start with coffee and croissants, Head of the Department Jonathan Home welcomed everyone before leaving the floor to Department Coordinator Sebastian Huber. Huber presented the latest news from departmental facilities and emphasised the range and quality of the services provided by the central workshop and the training of apprentices at D-PHYS. This presentation was followed by Didier Queloz's talk, which provided exciting insights into the discovery of exoplanets and the search for the origins of life.

Jonathan Home spoke again to introduce the department's current management team, presenting the research activities and management responsibilities of each member. This included an overview of his research into quantum systems and their potential applications.

The day ended with a large and rich barbecue that took place in unexpectedly good weather.
