Subsequently to the 2015 Paris agreement, the UN-​based Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2018 provided a special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-​industrial levels and related global. As main author of this report ETH Professor Sonia I. Seneviratne provides at the Zurich Physics Colloquium in October 2020 background information on this.

The next Photonics Online Meetup will take place in January 2021. The first Meetup was organised a year ago because this form of conference allows participants and speakers to attend the event without having to travel. This not only increased savings and participation opportunities, but also provided valuable experience to elevate the exchange of ideas and personal interaction at virtual events to a level comparable to traditional face-to-face events.
