Mission Statement

The physics department's commission for gender equality, inclusivity, and diversity, short GID commission, has been formed in 2021. Our members represent a cross-section of D-PHYS from students to professors. We want to look at the existing structures and processes at D-PHYS regarding these topics and work towards a more fair environment that allows every member of our department to develop their full potential. In particular, we coordinate D-PHYS efforts to promote equality, inclusivity and diversity, we report to the department and suggest and initiate changes. Furthermore, we provide a point of contact to the Schulleitung and to other diversity efforts at ETH.

The commission always welcomes your input! If you have ideas or see structural problems which may involve aspects of diversity, discrimination, etc., please let us know! You can rely on our confidentiality. We want to make it clear that the commission does not (and cannot) play the role of an ombudsperson. We do not have any mandate to get directly involved with actual cases. Our mission is to learn to what extent the existing structures and processes in D-PHYS and at ETH are helpful, effective and sufficient, and improve them towards a fair and open environment.

The D-PHYS offers a fellowship to support female post-doctoral researchers and Oberassistentinnen who are simultaneously starting a family while pursuing a research career. It gives them the opportunity to gain a fully funded PhD student (4 years) in their research area, enhancing the research direction of the mother. See regulations.
